it is interesting to me that I am finishing my education so close to elizabeth city where my great grandmother was born. her name was marion too. she loved silver, especially spoons. it was common in 1901 when she was born to collect silver and engrave it. i have several spoons dating from that period engraved with our name, gifts from my grandmother. not only is it sentimental, i find the spoon shape pleasing and like to make it in metal and repeat the shape in my drawings.

spoon neck is composed of forged out tiny spoons, silver, gold and other found parts. each spoon hangs from pieces that i found in a tackle box belonging to my great grandmother, they are then linked with forged components. i used a very small ball pien hammer to form the spoon bowl in a stump. the quality of the spoon surface has the same conviction of other pieces just on a smaller scale.
