usually i intentionally don't finish the hammer face on the cross pien so that the mark leaves a deep remnant on the piece. for this piece though, the face of the hammer was brought to a polished finish. while the hammer marks are distinct as in other pieces, they are more shallow and smooth on this piece. this vessel is made from a flat sheet of 18 gauge fine silver with copper inlay that i raised and then used an ammonia patina to change the color of the copper to a deep blue green and finished with an application of gold leaf to the exterior surface.
making the vessel form is interesting to me because it challenges the limits of the material. i do not use pitch to form any vessels. one of the distinctive characteristics of this vessel is that the long cylinder vessel shape is encircled by a ledge. i created this unique ledge by forming the vessel on a stake.
