this piece began as an 8 gauge flat sheet of copper. with this thickness, i just wanted to see how high i could raise it. once i figured out i could push the metal pretty far even though it was roughly 1/4 inch thick i simply continued to hammer it. when i was satisfied, it suggested to me a dress spinning around. this was the first time i left a piece so closed that the interior space was barely visible. the relationship of the inner and outer space is complex and interesting, especially as the eye traces the rim.
