this piece began as an 8 gauge flat sheet of copper. with this thickness, i just wanted to see how high i could raise it. once i figured out i could push the metal pretty far even though it was roughly 1/4 inch thick i simply continued to hammer it. when i was satisfied, it suggested to me a dress spinning around. this was the first time i left a piece so closed that the interior space was barely visible. the relationship of the inner and outer space is complex and interesting, especially as the eye traces the rim. return to works
